Cancer is a puzzle, even to the experts.
And it doesn't play fair.

To make the cancer journey less puzzling and more manageable, Hayven::org is changing the game by leveraging the immediacy of new media & video to provide support & advice while linking survivors to best-of existing resources.
Our long-game for
sharing information, ideas, and inspiration with others who've been there include post-treatment family retreat centers & a mobile education outreach program.

All ages, all stages, all races, all faces, all cancer types

Hayven is for everyone affected by cancer: Survivors, caregivers, and co-survivors (family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, medical providers; parents, children, siblings, aunts, best friends, the girl-next-door).

At Hayven, we're as inclusive as cancer.

What we're up to at HAYVEN::ORG
OUR MISSION  ::  To ease cancer journeys as never before, Hayven::org is fusing education and technology to develop and share unique hope-based resources and services FOR survivors BY survivors that leverage the collective wisdom of the experienced to assist and support those who come after us.

WHAT WE’RE NOT  ::  At Hayven::org, we don’t pretend to be cancer experts. And you don’t have to be either. What we ARE expert at is coping with cancer and sharing information so cancer survivors can help other survivors, caregivers can help caregivers, and co-survivors can support both of these and each other in unprecedented ways.

TOGETHER, WE'RE SMARTER  ::  Patient-to-patient information sharing can introduce possibilities and help each of us make better decisions during and after an uphill cancer journey. Because what's cancer treatment but a series of decisions that are incredibly high-stakes and incredibly personal?

The good news is, the crowd is a lot smarter than the individuals in it; even when it includes experts! It ends up we do better when we tap into the experiences of each other (both our mistakes AND wisdom) rather than rely on just ourselves or on experts to solve our problems and make our decisions.

INNOVATION, INNOVATION, INNOVATION  ::  Our in-the-works projects and programs include:
  • A MOBILE EDUCATION CENTER, which spearheads our OUTREACH PROGRAM
With the help of generous Corporate and Community  Partners, Hayven is renovating a vintage Airstream that we are so excited to take across the country to cancer 5Ks, hospitals, schools and other places where we'll find under-served populations like immigrants and Native Americans. The iconic Airstream's capacity as an office-on-wheels, an interview space, a video-editing bay, and a distribution hub will enable us to both promote cancer prevention and education and to gather information from survivors and caregivers with on-camera interviews and surveys.
  • A CANCER NAVIGATOR SITE containing comprehensive been-there-done-that information and insights from every cancer survivor’s best ally: Other survivors
We’ll organize in-the-trenches responses gathered online and in person into engaging, manageable, and audience-specific content that accelerates the learning curve for everyone rocked by a cancer diagnosis: survivors, caregivers, family and friends, co-workers and neighbors, even care providers. This online cancer guide — the crown jewel of our multi-channel MEDIA PROGRAM that includes Hayven's presence on Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Twitter — will be updatable in live time (a book or magazine can’t do that) and will link users directly to best-of resources.
  • A POST-TREATMENT RETREAT CENTER for entire families
Did you know that patients struggle most after treatment ends, with its emotional toll commonly manifesting later, just like PTSD does? And have you noticed that the services of Ronald MacDonald Houses and cancer retreats like Paul Newman's SeriousFun Camps cater to families affected by childhood cancers?
When we acquire a property that aligns with our vision and our budget, Hayven will create a first-of-its-kind refuge offering support, counseling and healing for survivors of ALL cancers, adult or childhood, by bringing together entire families who've dealt with similar cancers.
Just as our renovation of vintage Airstreams (already underway) stems from Hayven's brand and one of our elemental driving forces that reflect how we do it differently, Hayven's multi-use retreat center will be a hybrid business model to restore and conserve historic farms that have acreage and barns to function as hubs to fill this gap in service for cancer families. In cooperation with state CONSERVATION societies and with a team of qualified RESTORATION experts (individuals and firms), we're modeling our rural development project — also part of our OUTREACH PROGRAM — after proven successful for-profit enterprises (like The Beekman Brothers in New York or the McMenimen Brothers in the Pacific Northwest) with a view to revitalize rural communities, create jobs, and provide resources and services for other at-risk demographics.
